Hope

I am in a nightmare. I live in a time of sorrow, in a time of tears. Watching hopelessly as my world is destroyed and pulled apart from the very seams. I look at the past and smile, and then I look at the present and sigh, looking at the future I can only weep, for I see darkness. I sense fear, I can smell it and I watch it fuel the darkness as it grows, slowly consuming my world. I hear the earth grumble as it swells with the bodies of wasted lives. I try to block my ears from the wails and laments made by the souls of our fathers as they watch their children bring down the house they built. I can only watch again hopelessly as pieces of a catastrophic puzzle are put together slowly, it is now almost complete. I look on, like an audience watching the climax of a badly written play afraid to watch as the actors bring the play to a disastrous end.
I try to wake up, but I am trapped in this dreadful nightmare. However amidst all these, amidst the pain, I dream of a dying hope, a faint glimmer of light. Even in this nightmare, there is a chance for change. I could change this dream, so that I could wake up to a better reality. A reality filled with peace and understanding. A place promising genuine truth and understanding. Where there are unlimited possibilities and opportunities. But for this to come through, I must keep on dreaming, keep on hoping. Hope might be dying, but it isn’t lost yet.

Legacy

We are constantly haunted by the fickle nature of life. Some of us fear the unpredictability of life. Others are scared of the cruel fate life could deal us at any moment. For some though, their deepest fear is life itself. They do not understand the reason for their existence, so they fear the significance of their lives. The fear of death and change makes them recognize the abrupt nature of life.
This fear blinds them from a beautiful irony. Life may be abrupt but time is eternal. The fear of the inevitable end makes them forget about the vastness of eternity. They forget that even though they cannot cheat death, their actions can. Just like the images on a photograph, our actions could be frozen eternally for everyone to see. Our deeds are given immortality so that they last for ages.
However, worthy images alone withstand the test of time. So, we would have to leave a worthy photograph behind. We would have to leave a memory that would be trapped in the echoes of time. We would have to leave behind a legacy. A legacy would help us overcome our fear and give us something to live for.it gives meaning to our very existence. Life is like a forest which we have found ourselves in. Without a legacy as map, we would be lost and swallowed by the wilderness.

The escape

We have always been restricted by the four cornered walls of reality.
Our ideas struggle to break out of this forceful conformity.
Soon our dreams begin to fade under the pressure of life’s rigidity.
We fear that our dreams would be buried with the several corpses of untouched potential
Our hopes drastically losing in a battle for survival
Our footprints begin to fade even before they are made
The thought alone makes us very afraid
So we search for a way out, an escape for our hopes
A place where they would defy gravity, and soar so high
Reaching out and altering our predestined horoscopes
Some of us escape by freeing our dreams as beautiful sounds
Their dreams serve as the world’s lullaby
Others bring beauty to the world’s eyes
Their dreams escape to a landscape of no bounds
While some of us escape to a new world alone
Where reality is merely a stepping stone
To a greater existence, with a special tone
They are the true conquerors of time
My escape it to a place where my thought is prime
A place where my thought births stories
Stories that bring to life my deepest and innermost feelings
My hopes and dreams escape through different characters
Some characters express my fears and inhibitions
Others, my joy, pain, anger and wonder
A place where my thoughts take shape
Welcome to my freedom, welcome to my expressions
Welcome to my escape.
